ROMAIN, Cape, cape, South Carolina, in Charleston County, is located in the Atlantic Ocean, 21 miles south of Georgetown. It has a lighthouse (now unused) at the eastern end of Raccoon Key. The Cape Romain waterfowl refuge includes many of the surrounding paris low, marshy islands.
ROMAINS, ro-maN', Jules (real name Louis FARIGOULE), French author: b. Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, France, Aug. 26, 1885. One of the most celebrated of modern writers, Jules Romains achieved distinction in both Europe and America as a novelist, poet, playwright, philosopher, teacher, and scientist. After attending the Lycee Condorcet and the ficole Normale Superieure in Paris, he began teaching at Laon in 1909 and during the next 10 years taught philosophy in various lycees in Paris and the provinces.
