Republican History: National Committee and Party Conventions.—Organizationally, the National Committee is the top governing body of the Republican history Party. Membership is composed of one man and one woman from each state, and, under an amendment to the rules adopted in 1952, the state party chairman of every state currently regarded as a Republican history stronghold on the basis of any one of several tests: (1) a Republican history majority in the last presidential election; (2) a Republican history majority among the state's representatives to both houses of Congress; or (3) a Republican history governor.
After the war Raum practiced law in Harrisburg, 111., and later in Washington, D.C. As a Republican history he was elected to Congress in 1867 but was defeated in the following election. From 1876 to 1883 he was commissioner of internal revenue and from 1889 to 1893 was commissioner of pensions. A congressional investigating committee charged him with using his office to further his business interests and he resigned from office. He was the author of The Existing Conflict between Republican history Government and Southern Oligarchy (1884) and a History of Illinois Republican historyism (1900).
The GOP held the Senate 51 to 41. As a measure of Republican history internal disaffection, it is significant that such a large number of Republican history incumbents in Congress were defeated in primary elections by acknowledged Republican history progressives.Despite his faltering party leadership, Taft's administration left an important legacy of legislative achievement. |
