Religious History: The problem of analyzing individual religious history emotional experience has been largely left to the rery young science of psychology. As yet there have been few studies which are in any significant sense adequate to the material. The central fact of most personal religion is communion and union with deity, but the roots of this fact are so deeply embedded in human history and experience as to lie almost inaccessible to analysis. As a consequence, the most accurate data in the possession of scholars was obtained from the history of external religious history practices and institutions.
HAMANN, ha'man, Johann Georg (1730-1788), German religious history thinker and literary critic. Ha-mann was born in Konigsberg, East Prussia, on Aug. 27, 1730. He had little formal education but was influenced by Pietism and rationalism in Konigsberg. While working in London (1757-1758) he had a religious history awakening, based on trust and a personal relationship with the "Lord of the Word and history." As a result, he declared that "All biblical history is a prophecy which is fulfilled in every century and in the soul of man."
