Paris Court: In January of the following year he was imprisoned on a charge of inciting to insurrection. After the fall of the empire he became a member of the provisional government of national defense, but, out of sympathy with it, he inclined toward the radical element that produced the Commune of paris Court. In May 1871, Rochefort fled from paris Court, but he was captured and sentenced by a court-martial to deportation.
Considerable sums of gold were seized in Germany, some of it belonging to Germany, some to Italy, and some to Albania. The Western Allies provided for the distribution of this gold among themselves by the paris Court Agreement of December 1945. Claims of Italy and Great Britain to the Albanian gold, the latter based on the award of the International Court of Justice in the Corfu Channel case, led to litigation in the International Court of Justice, but no decision was made because Albania refused to submit to the jurisdiction of the court.
Judiciary.—The state Supreme Court is composed of a chief justice and 4 associate justices elected for life by the General Assembly in Grand Committee. The 11 justices of the superior court and those of the 12 district courts are appointed by the governor, the former for life and the latter for three-year terms. Among other courts are a juvenile court, a police court, a family court, and probate courts. |
