Open A Portrait Studio:

Open A Portrait Studio The accordian-door studio design is most practical for the larger advertising studio located in an older building with extensive square footage. Often this is part of an older warehouse or similar structure. It may also be a loft such as can be found in cities like New York. Since clients will not be coming to the advertising photography studio, as they would with a portrait photograph studio, the physical appearance is not important. What you want is large open a portrait studio space divided to suit your special needs.

There is a type of portrait photography, and one which makes a wonderful specialty for those who have the flair to practice it impressively, which requires no studio lights at all and, indeed, not even a studio. This specialty is the production of outdoor portraits or character studies.

However, although a long focal length lens is mandatory, it need not be expensive. The utmost of critical sharpness in a portrait lens is not necessary, or even desired, since considerable diffusion can be tolerated in portrait negatives. Your lens needn't be in a shutter for strictly studio portraits, either. A lens in barrel is perfectly satisfactory, since you can provide yourself with a simple Packard shutter to use behind the lens. Many portrait men actually prefer the Packard to the more costly between-the-lens shutters.
