Modern Art Version: The Revised Version of 1881-1885 had been extremely literal—far more literal than the King James version; at the same time it lacked the rhythmic, poetic beauty of style of the older Bible. The revisers of 1937-1957 were instructed to take into account the results of modern art version scholarship, to bear in mind the use of the version in religious education and in public worship, and to recover as far as possible the smoothness and beauty of the version of 1611. The superiority of this latest revision is widely recognized. See also BIBLE—17. History of the English Bible.
The copyright of this version was acquired in 1928 by the International Council of Religious Education, which in 1937 authorized a further revision. Thirty-two of the foremost American Biblical scholars and teachers served on the American Standard Bible Committee. The result of their work was the REVISED STANDARD VERSION of the New Testament, published in 1946, followed by the Old Testament in 1952 and the Apocrypha in 1957. The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America in 1951 authorized the publication of this Revised Standard Version of the Bible, and the copies sold during the first five years reached the unprecedented number of over 5 million.
The process is repeated a number of times and the magnification of electrons is built up to a large value; (assuming four electrons ejected from a dynode for each one striking it and considering a photomultiplier with ten dynodes, there would be a million electrons finally received for each one initially ejected from the photocathode). The combination of phosphor with photomultiplier with amplifier constitutes a modern art version version of the scintillation counter. |
