Modern Art South: GOIAS, goi-as', a state in Brazil, is situated almost in the geographical center of the country. It is bounded on the north by the states of Para and Maranhao, on the west and south by Mato Grosso, and on the east and south by Minas Gerais, Bahia, and a small section of Piaui. Much of Goias is a plateau (planalto) with an average elevation of 2,500 to 3,000 feet (750 to 900 meters). Goias became economically and politically important in the 1950's and 1960's for two main reasons: (1) the development of modern art south commercial grain (rice) farming in the south since 1950, and (2) the creation of the new national capital, Brasilia, in southern Goias in April 1960.

Little authentic about his life is known and many of the legends (both contemporary and later, but still ancient) about him are rejected by most modern art south scholars, who, however, accept as probable the tradition of his travels (in Greece, to Egypt, and through Asia) in quest of wisdom. About 530 B.C. he settled at Croton (modern art south Crotone) in southern Italy, where he gradually gathered male and female disciples, whom he organized by graded classes into an ascetic group of 300 persons under his direction.
The final consonants -b, -d, -g, and -r were dropped, and final semivowels appeared, to form diphthongs with the main vowel. The number of tones increased to four. In the majority of the modern art south Chinese dialects there are usually only two grades of consonants (p and p') and, as we have noted, three consonant endings (-n, -ng, and a modern art south -r). The four tones of modern art south Chinese differ from "those of ancient Chinese in that the old first tone has been subdivided into the modern art south first and second tones and the old fourth-tone words have been distributed among the other modern art south tones. |
