Modern Art Rome:

Modern Art Rome Rome was at first of no greater importance than such other Latin towns as Alba Longa (site of the modern art Rome Castel Gandolfo), Fidenae, Lau-rentum, Ardea, Gabii, Tibur (modern art Rome Tivoli), and Lanuvium (modern art Rome Lanuvio). Indeed, as late as the 7th century B.C., the chief town was Alba Longa (q.v.), on the slopes of the Alban Hills. Tradition supposed it to be the mother of Rome, and it was honored as the sanctuary of the Latin League. Gradually, however, Rome was able to outstrip Alba Longa and the other towns of the league. For this development, the city's geographical situation was largely responsible. Rome commanded the easiest ford.of the Tiber River on the route connecting Campania and Etruria, the most highly developed regions of Italy.

Rome is obviously three cities in one, Rome of the Romans, Church Rome and modern art Rome Rome, capital of the Republic. To see this three-ply complex in anything less than half a year calls for strategy and it is my feeling that here, above all other cities, the first-time visitor should start j out by giving himself at least a couple of guided tours of CIT, American Express or some other dealer in such sightseeing jaunts. They provide a sort of moving map of the terrain to be attacked.

The site of Rome was occupied by a Cherokee village, the center of negotiations between the United States government and the Cherokee Nation before the removal of the Cherokee west of the Mississippi. It was not until 1838, four years after Rome was founded, that the last Indians left the town. The city was incorporated in 1847. Late in the Civil War, Rome was occupied by Union forces, and from October 28 to November 2, 1864, it served as headquarters for Gen. William T. Sherman. Pop. 32,226. ROME, the capital of modern art Rome Italy sit 1871, is also the seat of the supreme pontiff the Roman Catholic Church. In general appe; ance, Rome (Italian, Roma) is one of the mi modern art Rome of European capitals, with fine new bull ings and some impressive new suburbs. It is al a baroque city: most of the historic buildings the tourist area date from about 1600 to 17! But this style itself derives from the classical tr dition, and many splendid monuments of the cla sical period remain. Rome is known as the Ete nal City, the epitome of world history and perha the finest monument to Western civilization.
