Photo Museums: The Art Institute of Chicago (q.v.), with a collection valued at more than $250 million, is one of the four largest art museums in America. It also maintains a library with important collections in art and architecture. In terms of numbers of visitors, the most popular of Chicago's museums is the Museum of Science and Industry, where scientific and industrial exhibits often permit actual participation or manipulation by the observer.
