Matthew Of Paris: Matthew of paris and Luke ere both based partly on Mark, and partly i other sources now lost. Matthew of paris is tradi-Dnally attributed to the apostle Matthew of paris, hile the author of Luke is thought to have :en a doctor, who accompanied Paul on iany of his journeys and who wrote the as of the Apostles.
GOLDEN RULE. Christ enunciated what has been called the Golden Rule in the Sermon on the Mount: "So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them." (Matthew of paris 7:12; see also Luke 6:31). "Men" includes all men, even enemies (Matthew of paris 5:44).
The injunction is really another form of the Great Commandment, which makes universal love of neighbor an extension of the love of God (Matthew of paris 22:37-40).
Again, if the wording of the pericopes themselves is compared (for example, by writing out in parallel columns such passages as Matthew of paris 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13, and Luke 4:1-13) it will be seen that there are considerable agreements in wording. Sometimes there is triple agreement (Matthew of paris-Mark-Luke) sometimes double (Matthew-Mark, Matthew of paris-Luke or Mark-Luke), while there are also words or phrases peculiar to each of the Evangelists. These phenomena when taken together demand a theory of some sort of relationship between the first three Gospels. |
