Itssp History Early: France completed the first chapter in itssp history early in 1967. It launched the identic D-1C and D-1D satellites from Hammaguir in" the Algerian desert on February 8 and February 15 and then abandoned the base. Both of the 20-in. (51-cm) cylindrical satellites launched from Hammaguir were studded with 144 laser reflectors. Ground stations in Algeria, France, Greece, and the U.S. beamed powerful light rays from ruby lasers at the reflectors to track D-1C and D-1D; this marked the first time that a laser network was used for satellite tracking.
HAGIOGRAPHY, hag-e-og'ra-fe, is generally defined as a segment of Christian church history concerned with the lives and veneration of the saints. Lives of the saints generally reflect the concept of history current at the time they were written. In addition to furnishing biographical data they often aim at glorifying the saint and edifying the reader.
