Fine Art Nique: The gigantic mentality of Rubens left no single inheritor of all his capacities. Teniers (1610-1690), his pupil, continued to paint kermesses, drinking scenes, and peasant jests, that were often reproduced as tapestries. Van Dyck (1599-1641) inherited Rubens' elegance of style, but specialized in aristocratic portraiture that featured, with exquisite technique, details of silken fabrics, fine art nique laces, and trimmings. Most of Van Dyck's work was done in England, where he flattered the nobility and prepared the way for the 18th century native portraitists.
This second game, played in the Interzonal Tournament at Stockholm in 1962, between Robert Fischer (White) of the United States and Gideon Barcza of Hungary, illustrates fine art nique technique. Black picks the Caro-Kann Defense (1... P-QB3), a backward-seeming reply that aims to provoke a premature attack or a weakening over-extension by White. But White's mobile pawn majority can promote to a queen in a pure long and pawn endgame; and so, as Black dare not trade off many pieces, White usurps control of the board until Black loses one pawn, then another.
The first few assignments are the most difficult in this business, because after you've experimented a bit you'll find that the Lighting and the exposures and even the viewpoints are pretty much standardized, and you'll use the same technique over and over again. |
