County Museum Of: At one end of the central business district, he Vandenberg Center, named in honor of U. S. Jen. Arthur H. Vandenberg, includes an audi-orium, a Hall of Justice, city and county build-ngs, and a sculpture by Alexander Calder.
The Cultural Center, at the other end of the msiness district, includes an art museum, the "ubh'c Museum, a furniture museum, a plane-irium, and a central library. Grand Rapids has n extensive park system, including a zoo.
HAGERSTOWN, ha'garz-toun, is a city in western Maryland, the seat of Washington county, on Antietam Creek, about 70 miles (112 km) northwest of Washington, D. C., and 6 miles (9 km) east of the Potomac River. Interstate Highways 70 and 81 intersect at Hagerstown.
The neighboring area is agricultural, and the city has diversified manufacturing, including a truck engine and transmission assembly plant, an aircraft and missile plant, and factories that make pipe organs, dust-collecting equipment, and furniture. An important medical publishing house is located here.
The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is in City Park. The Washington County Free Library is the second-oldest county library in the United States.
The University of Wisconsin at Green Bay and the Northeast Wisconsin Technical Institute are in the city. Points of interest include Tank Cottage (1776,); the Old Fort Howard Dispensary (1816); Hazlewood (1837), the house where the Wisconsin state constitution was drafted; the Brown County Historical Society; the Neville Public Museum, with outstanding collections in local history; and the National Railroad Museum. |
