Average Exhibition Print:

Average Exhibition Print One might venture the comparison that in the average exhibition print we have beauty, design, or tonal scheme deliberately set forth, with the subject as motive or material merely, the subject as the photographer saw it or :elt it, an interpretation, a phase; whereas, in the Stieg-itzprints, you have the subject itself in its own substance or personality, as revealed by the natural play of light and shade about it, without disguise or attempt at interpretation, simply set forth with perfect technique—and so on, multiplying words. There were portraits, some of them of men whom I knew fairly well.

When you want to offer your pictures to an agency, here's how to go about it. Print up 50 to 100 of your best negatives, as 8 x 10 glossies, paste a caption slip to each print telling who, what, when, where, why and how about the material shown, stamp your name and address on the back of each print, and also write a number on the back of each print. Make a record of the print numbers, so that when your agent sells a picture and writes you to ask for a replacement you can quickly deliver it to him and have him prepared for another sale.

One way to realize extra profits is to have two contact prints made of every negative, and then when the parent picks up the one print to which he is entitled, he should be offered the second print for fifty cents (whether the first print was given free or whether the parent paid a dollar for it). Since the cost of making the second print is almost nothing, the entire half dollar is just about pure profit.
