Albert Museum: Among the buildings erected are the South Kensington Museum (now the Victoria and Albert Museum), the Natural History Museum, the Imperial Institute (demolished except for the tower), the Imperial College, and the Royal Albert Hall. This last was completed in 1871, ten years after the death of Prince Albert. Its original purpose was "for the advancement of the Arts and Sciences and works of industry of all nations." It remains an important venue for concerts of classical and popular music, sporting events, and gatherings of large national and international organizations.
